Yesterday when my husband was out hunting with his buddy Geoff he ran across this toy out in the middle of no where. He picked it up and thought "Colton would love that", but was not about to hike all the way out with it, so he tossed it aside in some bushes. He started walking away when he heard "Can we fix it? Yes we can!". Shocked that the toy still worked he stopped, turned around, and got it out of the bushes to bring home to Colton. See the phrase "Can we fix it? Yes we can!" is big in our household because that is what Bob the builder says, and Colton LOVES anything Bob the Builder.
When Josh got home he cleaned it all up, sanitizing it first, and then rinsing it off with water to get some dirt off. After he let it dry he pushed the button and heard, "Can we fix it? Yes we can!", but this time it sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks on speed were saying it and not Bob the builder. He was so sad because now the toy was not going to be as "cool" if Colton couldn't hear Bob the Builder saying the phrase. He waited to give it to Colton thinking "let it dry a little longer and then the sound will come back". So we went to church this morning and told Colton he could have the surprise when we got home.
When we returned home we gave the toy to Colton. He was so excited about it! We pushed the button in hopes the sound would return to normal, but to our dismay it still sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks. Josh tried to fix the toy with new batteries and a few other adjustments, but it just didn't seem to work. We were about to just take the batteries out when I suggested "why don't we pray and ask God to fix Colton's toy".
At Sunday school this morning Colton's lesson was that "God can do Anything", so I thought what a great way to show him that God CAN do anything by us praying and asking him to fix his toy. Josh prayed outloud for God to fix the toy, and I prayed a quiet prayer in my head for God to fix his toy to show Colton that HE really can do anything. After we prayed Colton asked "how can God fix it when He is not here in our house?". I love that about kids.....they are so literal about everything! We told Colton that God does not have to physically be in our house to fix the toy, He has the power from Heaven to do and fix anything that He wants to. And we reminded Colton about the lesson that he had learned earlier today in Sunday school.
Colton left the toy after we prayed and came to the kitchen for lunch. Ella was done with lunch and so she was in the living room playing. She crawled over to the new toy and pushed the button..... to all of our amazment we heard "Can we fix it? Yes we can!", but this time it was back to normal! No more Alvin and the Chipmunks on speed.
My heart filled with joy and I was overwhelmed that God would choose to fix Colton's toy. What an amazing lesson Colton learned today about God's power and His love, and what an amazing reminder to Josh and I that God has the Power to do anything we ask, we just have to believe and have faith.
I hope that our little miracle from today is a reminder that God loves us and teaches us through the simplest of ways that "Can HE fix it? Yes HE can!!"
